1. "Dad," he whispers through the connection, afraid of being rebuffed. There's no reason to worry, though, as warmth swarms their connection and follows him into sleep, and he wakes up the next morning with the rest of the weight gone from his shoulders.
2. "Dad?" he asks through the connection, afraid of not getting an answer. The others are quick to reassure him, though, and even though he can barely feel Dylan, it's enough to press down the impending panic he'd felt when he'd first woken up in recovery with little memory of what had happened after he'd felt Dylan's death in the ambulance.
3. "Dad," he breathes as he clings to him, the official adoption papers on the table behind them. It had been stupid for him to think history would repeat itself here, but it's still a relief to know that his track record's finally been broken.
4. "Dad!" he screams through the connection, feeling distantly when Merritt pulls a mental wall up to shield the others from his desperation. There's the faintest blip, and he barely thinks about it as he sprints away from the others, running hard for the harbor.
